My name is Jeff Richmond and I’m the Director of Instruction for the online Consistent Golf School. Up until about 5 years ago I struggled with my short game. I mean I REALLY struggled!
I got to where I almost had a panic attack when I was faced with a simple chip shot around the green. In my mind all I could see were duffs and flubs. Either not getting the ball to the green or skulling it across the green. Far from the hole. Sometimes I would pull the chip shot way left or push it way right. If faced with a simple lob over a bunker I would knock it into the bunker or way over the green. I really needed short game improvement.
Finally it was so bad
that i removed all wedges from my bag and just used short irons or my putter around the greens. It was better than what would happen when i used a wedge.
Everyone I played with knew if I missed the green with my approach shot i was done. No one, not even myself had any respect for my short game.
I was messing around on the practice green one Friday evening and suddenly I found something. It just happened out of no where. I had found my short game improvement.
Suddenly I hit maybe 20 great pitches in a row. My short game changed dramatically in about 20 minutes. This sounds far fetched but I had gone to a short game duffer to a short game master. In a matter of minutes.

Before this amazing discovery, It scared me to death over every short shot around the green. And now I was trying, and expecting, to hole out every shot.
My “bad shots” after this new discovery were better than my good shots just a few minutes earlier!

My scores, as you may imagine, really improved
over my next few rounds. And my confidence just soared. My short game was saving many pars now and creating birdies on some holes like short par 5s. It was taking the pressure off the rest of my game also. I had really really found the answer to short game improvement.
60 – 65% of golf is played within 100 yards of the hole. 80% of the shots all golfers lose to par are the result of a poor short game.
